Art in Orange Cat

The large Orange Cat came first.

Inessa Gogia painted it for this room, and it remains the centre of the living space.

It is not part of a changing display. It gave the apartment its name and stays here.

The Orange Cat

A large acrylic painting on canvas stands on the grey column in the living room.

Its colour, lighting and place in the room were considered together.

You notice it at once.

The longer you stay, the less it feels like a picture on a wall and the more it feels like part of the apartment.

The cats opposite

On the opposite wall is a series of seven black-and-white works.

The cats appear in different states: cheerful, uneasy, guilty, romantic, frightened, thoughtful.

The meaning is never explained too neatly.

Inessa prefers to leave enough space for people to recognise something of their own.

The apartment inside the pictures

Some works borrow details from Orange Cat itself.

A kitten sleeps on the same shelf and the same books that stand in the living room.

Other scenes may return to the same table, chairs, clock or corner of the apartment.

Sometimes the connection is obvious.

Sometimes it appears only after a few days.

In the bedroom

Two quieter oil paintings hang in the bedroom.

The Tree of Life

The Water Cycle

They are more abstract and more restrained than the cat series in the living room.

The room feels different because of them.

A changing collection

The large Orange Cat remains.

The other works may change with time, with the seasons or as Inessa completes new pieces.

Some may leave with new owners.

Others will take their place.

The apartment stays recognisably the same, but never entirely fixed.

If a work stays with you

Most of the changing works can be purchased.

The large Orange Cat is not for sale, but Inessa can create an authorised version by commission.
